code the change yyc is a student-led initiative where students in technology-focused programs volunteer their time to work on projects for causes as a way to grow their skills, gain experience, attain mentorship, and give back to the community.
Timeline
2025
2025 launched strong with our AWS Reachback Event (with Amazon Web Services and HTC), followed by our successful interview prep events Hack & Hire and Resume Roast. We recently hosted Hack the Change 2025, centered on sustainable and inclusive cities.
2024
We hosted a GenAI Workshop by Wizdrop (students built their own AI Chatbot!), followed by our staple events, Resume Roast and the highly anticipated Hack the Change 2024!
2023
We kicked off the year with a bang, hosting events like Developing Responsible AI, our popular Resume Roast, and 4th annual Hack the Change! We ended the year with our workshop on Programming in C.
2022
Code the Change YYC underwent a brand refresh! We successfully held our biggest hybrid hackathon to date with 400+ participants!
2021
Going virtual this year, we held workshops on UI/UX design and had a virtual mental health hackathon!
2020
This year, we hosted our first hackathon centered around climate change awareness and held a workshop on agile development practices!
2019
"The Calgary chapter of Code the Change launched this year! Code the Change YYC alongside our partners at Benevity brought the idea of bettering the world through code to life."
